Michael H. Coles is a mostly self-taught photographer living in Montana. A large body of his work concerns the American West. His photographs have been exhibited across the country and published in magazines and newspapers.
"My eyes are sparked by natural light and uncontrolled situations where light and movement are not so readily manipulated. As a photographer I am drawn to the conspicuous role of chance within the edges of a frame. I continue to work with film emulsions while embracing the possibilities and potential of the digital world. I remain intrigued by the relationship between the machine and the human eye, tensions and balance that arise between this interface." -Michael H. Coles
