A WOVEN HISTORY / APRIL 18–JUNE 27

Modern West is pleased to announce A Woven History, a group exhibition featuring works by Rebecca Campbell, Shalee Cooper, Angela Ellsworth, Kiki Gaffney, Dara Hartman, Emily Hawkins, Suzanne Hill, Amy Jorgensen and Bailey Rigby. The exhibition will be on view April 18 through June 27, 2025.

A Woven History engages intricate forms of the landscape, abstracted signs and symbols and nods to domestic and religious iconography, uniting a narrative of womanhood and resilience. Through creative practices centric to place and personal memory, the featured artists create works that weave together past with present, signifying a contemporary, feminine perspective.

The exhibition will feature a range of carefully crafted and conceptualized works, including Amy Jorgensen’s cyanotypes of women suffragists, Angela Ellsworth’s pantaloncini sculpture made of 60,000 clothing pins and Dara Hartman’s complex and fragile ceramic quilts.

“With each of the artists having ties to Utah, the work carries an importance and relevance to our state and its unique history,” says Shalee Cooper, director and curator at Modern West. “It is inspiring to see these women using their work to navigate the delicate balance of embracing and challenging societal expectations.”
