"Over the past year, I have been fortunate to work on a passion project resulting in an extraordianary collaboration with 14 Palestinian women living in Gaza and three women living in Salt Lake City. Together we have created a unique collaboration in the form of a handmade zine. It’s called Paper Boats and I’d love to share it with you." -TAMRIKA KHVTISIASHVILI
Zine (n) - a small circulation self-published work of original texts and images.
Paper Boats is a collection between 16 women - 14 Palestinians living in Gaza, and 3 Americans living in Salt Lake City, Utah - of essays, poetry, photography and art. This is a limited run of 100 zines printed through a small press and hand-assembled in a unique and imaginative book form. The project was part of Skidmore College MDOCS Storyteller’ Institute Forum and is being represented and sold by Printed Matter Bookstore in NY.
To celebrate the launch of the zine and enjoy a fun night with fellow artists, activists, and community members, join us on Thursday, August 26th, at 6PM. Meet the Salt Lake collaborators and hear exclusive interviews from the writers in Gaza as you enjoy delicious Arabic fare generously donated by Laziz Kitchen. You will also have an opportunity to purchase your own limited edition copy of the zine in person in the beautiful Modern West gallery in downtown Salt Lake City. The event is free but limited to 50 attendees. Please RSVP to reserve your seat.
If you are not able to attend
You can purchase the hand-assembled limited edition Paper Boats Zine now.
All sales and extra donations go to the 14 artists in Gaza.
