Honoring Paul Reynolds' Legacy: Tribute Opportunities

6 April 2024
Modern West celebrates the life, work and legacy of artist Paul Reynolds, who unexpectedly passed away on Friday, March 15.

Paul Reynolds was not only a talented abstract artist, but also an actively engaged supporter of the Salt Lake Arts community. He was the curator of The Gallery at Library Square, welcomed the Salt Lake City Performance Arts Festival for the past decade, and cultivated the library’s recurring art showcase, 12 Minutes Max. Through his participation and passion for community, Paul has left a legacy in developing and inspiring many artists throughout their careers.

For all those who would like to pay a tribute to Paul:

Paul's family has invited all to leave a rock on the porch of the Avenues house; place a rock to honor Paul.

161 F Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84103

As part of the 11th Annual Salt Lake City Performance Art Festival, there will be a Community Action in Memory of Paul at City Academy Charter School (555 East 200 South) on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM on the outdoor basketball court behind the school. Everyone is welcome to participate in the action.

A Community Action in Memory of Paul Reynolds
December 3, 1950 – March 15, 2024

Please join us in honoring his memory by slowly and silently walking around his structure, remembering him. You may stay as long as you wish.

We have been honored to partner closely with Paul in representing the final years of his work. His pieces, often executed on delicate birch panels, incorporate his performative spirit through improvised line work. His approach to painting and choices of materials reflect both his curatorial eye and love for the performing arts.

Paul Reynolds' legacy continues to encourage and uplift us all. His artmaking practice, which often concluded with blindfolding himself and engaging in sudden movement to introduce his final marks, inspires us to take chances and embrace the unknown. Paul’s contagious love for creating and building genuine connections will live within our Salt Lake Arts community forever.
