Frozen in Time

27 June - 9 August 2023

Diane Tuft is passionate about recording the visual effects of climate change and global warming. Through photography, video and mixed media installations she captures both the elegance and demolition of our world.

“My photographs document the expansive beauty of our Earth and the dire situation that it continues to face if we do not provide a sustainable environment for the future of our planet,” Tuft says.

Tuft’s work has been exhibited in museums around the globe and is in numerous private and public collections. She is the author of three monographs, titled UNSEEN: Beyond the Visible Spectrum; Gondwana: Images of an Ancient Land and The Arctic Melt: Images of a Disappearing Landscape. She currently lives and works in New York City.

In conjunction with Tuft’s exhibition Frozen in Time at Artworx Art Space in Greece, Modern West has released select works from the show in an online exclusive exhibition available June 27, 2023–August 9, 2023. This body of work features a series of photographs exploring the inexhaustible beauty and extreme vulnerability in the environments of both our Arctic and Antarctic landscapes.

Upstairs @ Modern West will also be screening Tuft's film The Arctic Melt (2017), a three-minute elegy to the Arctic melt and its effect on the ecosystem. The film will be available during open hours, Tuesday-Friday 10-5 PM and Saturdays 10-2 PM.
